Today was exciting. It was good enough that i didn't have to go to work today, so it was a complete bonus when i got to go and watch a Radio Four show called 'Bespoken Word' being recorded in the West End!! Jamie was playing Robots for the show, thanks to Yap who got him a slot. Met some fantastic poets. I noticed, Robots takes on a new meaning in every place that it is played, and it resonated with this crowd on some profound level. It is fascinating to see the different interpretations over the years, and how people relate it to current or historic events even though they have no idea of when it was written. Does it matter though? did people need to know it was written 4 years ago, before 9/11? Probably not, once a song is out there and has been filtered through the ears of a subjective being, it is no longer nessecary to know its context for them to understand or find meaning in it... in many cases it can spoil the magic knowing too much about a song. :)
This all could go on for a long time since there is so much to say...oh I'll just keep going! Watching radio being recorded and re-recorded was an experience, I felt the intense focus of the presenters and the pressure man, the pressure of spoken word!! I think i am starting to respect it and like it more than i thought i ever could. It's powerful...I would almost say more powerful than any other type performance I have encountered. Ofcourse that statement will be retracted tomorrow after some thought, but right now I'm in an I LOVE POETRY mood! It flows, it glows, it knows.....it's POETRY!!!
Tomorrow is Nii, it's going to be amazing. How do I know? Because put into it is the intention of serving a purpose far beyond what any of us can intelligibly understand or know about. I'm not making it happen, the performers aren't making it happen, the audience isn't making it happen, ....the whole of the sum of all these parts is making it happen. And that's what I trust in.
Let the Love flow. Word. :)
Good Night.
